Next Up - Pickleball Open Play Information

What is “Next Up” Open Play?“Next Up” Open Play offers designated times for our local pickleball community to gather and play with others. Utilizing the "Next Up" paddle system, players can join in without the need for pre-arranged groups. Simply bring your paddle and join a game with fellow locals.

 

Things to Keep in Mind During Open Play:-Match Skill Levels: When possible join games with players of similar skill levels for a more enjoyable experience. Beginners should seek out games with others who are also starting out.- Skill Building: For advanced players, use this time to practice new shots, strategies, and offer respectful guidance to others in a positive manner.

 

Guidelines for Open Play:Wait Patiently: Respect the paddle rotation and avoid jumping ahead in line.Communicate Leaving: If you need to step away, inform others so they can adjust the game.Play Within Your Skill Level: Avoid attempting shots beyond your abilities for a smoother and more enjoyable game.

 

“Next Up” Rotation System - Ensures fair court time and facilitates the rotation of partners

 

First to Arrive: Set up the net if necessary and be first to play.

Rotation Rules:

- One player waiting, one losing player will drop out

- Two players waiting, two losing players will drop out

- Three players waiting, two losing players and one winning player will drop out

- Four or More players waiting, all four players will drop out

Partner Switching: Change partners periodically for variety.

Consecutive Game Limit: Play no more than 2 consecutive games before rotating out.

 

Paddle Racking Guidelines:-

- Organization: After each game, place paddles in the 'next up' racking system in sets of 4.

- Winners First: Winners rack their paddles before others.

- Next Sign: As groups take paddles to play move the 'NEXT' sign to the next set of paddles .

- Consideration: Be kind and considerate. If a player has sat out a couple rotations, offer to move their paddles up in the rack.

- Partners: - After playing with the same group multiple times, players can agree to mix up playing partners. - Players wanting to play together can move their paddles down (never up) to play together.

Out Calls:

- Out of bounds or fault serve calls are made by the receiving team.

- One receiving team player can overrule their partner.

- Receiving teams can seek assistance from the non-receiving team if unsure.

- The non-receiving team's call will stand when asked for a ruling.

Questionable Calls:

- All questionable calls or no calls are considered in play.

- Failure to make an "out" call results in the ball being considered in play.

- No do overs or replays are allowed (except by rule).

- When in doubt, the ball should be considered in and playable.

 

Respect and Enjoyment:

- Be respectful to all players, creating an inviting and encouraging environment for everyone.

- Remember to have fun and enjoy the game!

- Respect and Sportsmanship: Be respectful of fellow players and adhere to the rules of the game. Make fair and honest calls.

 

Respect Others: By using proper language, maintain a friendly demeanor, and avoid overly aggressive play. - Keep Conversations Brief:  Respect others' focus and enjoyment of the game.
